Great news for Sam Fisher enthusiasts: Ubisoft has affirmed it hasn't forgotten about Splinter Cell by introducing Steam Achievements to 2013's Splinter Cell: Blacklist.
Although our last major update on the Splinter Cell Remake arrived in 2022 when IGN spoke with Ubisoft Toronto developers about their design approach for the game, the developer discreetly updated the achievement list for the 12-year-old Blacklist on Steam overnight.
Ubisoft stated: "Agents, we're excited to confirm that Steam Achievements are now live for Splinter Cell: Blacklist!"
The achievements will be "retroactively awarded for accomplishments you've already completed in-game," though you'll need to launch the game at least once for this to take effect. "Once synchronized, previously unlocked Ubisoft Connect achievements will automatically unlock on Steam," the team added.
Along with implementing retrospectively obtainable achievements, the developer opted not to include the additional 19 online achievements available on consoles, ensuring players can still fully complete the game on Steam.
The stealth-action franchise is poised to make a comeback with a ground-up remake of the original title, Splinter Cell Remake. Details remain scarce, but we know the new version is being built using the advanced Snowdrop engine.
“Two decades later, we can reassess the plot, characters, and overall narrative—making refinements where certain elements haven't aged gracefully,” explained creative director Chris Auty at the time. “However, the heart of the story and core experience will stay true to the original game.”
Last month, Ubisoft established a subsidiary focused on its Assassin’s Creed, Far Cry, and Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six franchises, backed by a €1.16 billion (approximately $1.25 billion) investment from Chinese conglomerate Tencent.
This development followed Ubisoft's announcement that Assassin's Creed Shadows surpassed 3 million players. The company faced several notable failures, staff reductions, studio shutdowns, and project cancellations leading up to Shadows' launch, placing tremendous pressure on its success after the company's stock price reached a historic low.
