FromSoftware's PlayStation 4 masterpiece Bloodborne turns a decade old today, marking its March 24, 2015 release with dedicated fans organizing yet another Return to Yharnam community celebration.
The gothic horror title not only solidified the Japanese developer's reputation but spawned massive demand for follow-ups that never materialized. A decade later, gamers still question Sony's puzzling refusal to revisit this acclaimed franchise through remasters, sequels, or even simple performance upgrades.
The Mystery of Bloodborne's Absence
Former PlayStation executive Shuhei Yoshida recently shared his personal theory about the franchise's dormancy during a Kinda Funny Games interview. After clarifying he no longer possesses insider knowledge, Yoshida speculated that FromSoftware president Hidetaka Miyazaki - currently occupied with projects like Elden Ring and its upcoming multiplayer spinoff - may be reluctant to let others handle his cherished creation.
"Miyazaki-san really loved what he created with Bloodborne," Yoshida explained. "My theory is he doesn't want anyone else touching it."
The Fan-Made Alternatives
In Sony's ongoing silence, the modding community has attempted to fill the void. Notable efforts include Lance McDonald's 60fps patch (later removed via DMCA) and Lilith Walther's Bloodborne demakes. Most recently, Digital Foundry showcased full 60fps gameplay achieved through PS4 emulation breakthroughs.
With no official response from Sony regarding potential remasters, fans continue keeping Yharnam alive through community initiatives. Today's anniversary event encourages players to create new characters, engage in multiplayer, and leave commemorative messages throughout the game's world.
As Bloodborne enters its second decade, these grassroots celebrations may represent the only way forward for the franchise's devoted hunters.
