New Indie Studio Enters the Digital Card Game Arena
Freshly established game developer Deploy Starship has unveiled its first project - a free-to-play sci-fi trading card game titled Starship Warbeasts. The cross-platform multiplayer title will launch simultaneously on PC and mobile devices.
What Makes Starship Warbeasts Unique?
Blending mechanics from genre giants like Hearthstone and Magic: The Gathering with innovative combat systems, the game introduces dynamic in-match progression. Key features include:
- Real-time card level-ups during battles
- Expandable combat abilities that evolve mid-game
- A strategic resource management system that rewards adaptability
Players assume the role of Lumens - spacefaring commanders who control teams of five Warbeast cards from a staggering 75+ million possible combinations. Each match becomes a tactical puzzle as you unlock new abilities through spells, items, and progression cards.
A Living Sci-Fi Universe
The game's lore spans 10 conflict-ridden planets, each home to 25 unique Warbeast species fighting over scarce resources. The narrative will develop primarily through seasonal in-game events rather than a traditional campaign - though developers haven't ruled out adding story content post-launch.
Development Roadmap
Founder Matthew Albright describes their vision for Starship Warbeasts as "high-octane Saturday morning cartoons meets competitive TCG." The studio plans to conduct both public and private playtests leading up to its 2026 release.
While the Google Play listing isn't live yet, prospective players can wishlist the game on Steam. For more gaming news, check out our coverage of Poppy Playtime Chapter 4's mobile adaptation.
