Supercell Announces the Shutdown of Squad Busters After One Final Update

Supercell has announced the closure of Squad Busters, its global launch in May 2024. Given the studio’s track record with enduring hits like Clash Royale and Brawl Stars, this decision comes as a surprise. At launch, the game generated tremendous excitement and drew millions of players.

Unfortunately, that momentum didn’t last. Unlike Supercell’s traditional approach of extended beta phases, this title followed a faster, more global rollout. But by early 2025, the team recognized the game hadn’t reached the levels of engagement they had hoped for.

To revive interest, Supercell rolled out Heroes—one of its most ambitious live updates to date. Yet even this major overhaul failed to resolve the game’s core challenges. Today’s announcement is the result.

So, when will Squad Busters shut down?

The studio confirmed that active development will end after a final update in December 2025. The game will remain accessible for a time before fully shutting down in 2026—no earlier than mid-year.

In-app purchases were disabled at 11:00 AM UTC on October 30th. Players who made purchases during 2025 can request to transfer their value to another Supercell title, including Clash Royale, Brawl Stars, Clash of Clans, Hay Day, or Boom Beach.

The transfer process begins on November 10th via Player Support and remains open until the end of 2025. A Q&A session is scheduled for November 13th, where developers will address questions about the shutdown and the game’s development path.

To show appreciation, Supercell is distributing free bundles across its other games

These rewards will be available through the Supercell Store, based on total Squad Busters playtime. Exclusive Squad-themed cosmetics will return one final time, letting players carry a piece of the game into Supercell’s other worlds. The rewards will be accessible from November 10th through the end of 2025.
