The success story at Games Workshop, the creators behind the iconic Warhammer 40,000 series, continues to unfold as the company announces a generous £20 million (approximately $27 million) bonus to be distributed among its staff. This move comes on the heels of a stellar financial performance for the 52 weeks ending June 1, 2025.
During this period, Games Workshop reported a core revenue of £560 million, marking a significant increase from the previous year's £494.7 million. Licensing revenue also saw a substantial rise, reaching £50 million from £31 million. The company's core profit climbed to £210 million, up from £174.8 million, while licensing profit soared to £45 million from £27 million. These figures culminated in a pre-tax profit of £255 million, a notable jump from the £203 million recorded in the prior period.
In light of these robust financial results and as a gesture of appreciation for their employees' contributions, Games Workshop is distributing the £20 million bonus equally among its estimated 1,500 staff members. This translates to a £13,333 (approximately $18,000) bonus for each employee, an increase from the £18 million distributed the previous year.
While Games Workshop's core business revolves around the sale of miniatures used in tabletop wargames like Warhammer 40,000, the company is increasingly capitalizing on its intellectual property (IP). This is evident from the significant revenue generated from high-profile video games such as last year's Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2, and animations like Amazon's Warhammer 40,000 Secret Level episode. Furthermore, the collaboration with Amazon for Henry Cavill's Warhammer 40,000 Cinematic Universe, which includes plans for films and television series, underscores the company's growing focus on its IP. The anticipation continues to build with Space Marine 3 currently in development.
Looking ahead, Games Workshop acknowledges that the record licensing revenue achieved in the current period is unlikely to be repeated in the 2025/26 fiscal year. Nonetheless, the company remains committed to its licensing strategy as a core focus. The Warhammer 40,000 and broader Warhammer franchises are experiencing unprecedented growth, with no signs of slowing down based on these recent results.
