The creator of a popular Bloodborne 60fps patch has received a DMCA takedown notice from Sony. Lance McDonald, a well-known video game modder, announced the news on Twitter, stating he removed the patch links as requested by Sony Interactive Entertainment.
McDonald's announcement referenced a past encounter with former PlayStation executive Shuhei Yoshida, where he jokingly revealed his creation of the Bloodborne 60fps mod. Yoshida's reaction was described as laughter.
Bloodborne's continued absence of an official next-gen patch or remaster remains a significant point of contention among fans. While many clamor for a 60fps update, others desire a full remaster or even a sequel. McDonald's mod, released in 2021, attempted to address the 30fps limitation. However, recent advancements in PS4 emulation, specifically ShadPS4, now allow for a near-remaster experience at 60fps on PC, as highlighted by Digital Foundry. This technological leap may have prompted Sony's more assertive response. IGN has reached out to Sony for comment.
Earlier this month, Yoshida offered his perspective on Bloodborne's inactivity in an interview with Kinda Funny Games. He suggested that Hidetaka Miyazaki, the game's creator, is protective of his work and prefers not to delegate its improvement or remastering to others. Yoshida emphasized this was merely his personal theory and not an official statement.
Despite Miyazaki's frequent deflection of Bloodborne questions, citing FromSoftware's lack of IP ownership, he did acknowledge in February 2023 that a release on more modern hardware would benefit the game. Bloodborne's future remains uncertain, nearly a decade after its initial release.
