Top Classes to Master in Xenoblade Chronicles X

Author : Eleanor Update:May 18,2025

Choosing the best classes in *Xenoblade Chronicles X Definitive Edition* can be daunting, given the array of options and the time it takes to master new weapon skills. While any class can be effective in this RPG, some stand out as particularly powerful. If you find yourself comfortable with the starting class, that's perfectly okay, as it's one of the most versatile in the game.

Our *Xenoblade Chronicles X Definitive Edition* classes guide highlights the top five classes, explaining why they are worth your time and effort.

Drifter

The Drifter class option in Xenoblade Chronicles X

*Xenoblade Chronicles X* encourages players to move on from the Drifter class once they reach rank 10, but Drifter remains a highly versatile and useful class throughout the entire game. For fans of the original *Xenoblade Chronicles*, Drifter can be seen as a Shulk-like class, albeit with fewer skills to learn. It offers a range of debuff and offensive arts, including skills that can stagger and topple enemies, as well as one that regenerates health, ensuring you're not solely reliant on your party for healing.

Drifter wields assault rifles for robust ranged damage and knives for potent melee attacks, making it adaptable to any combat scenario. Its greatest advantage, however, is the highest number of skill slots among all classes, allowing for extensive customization. Even after experimenting with other classes to master new skills, returning to Drifter is worthwhile to tailor it to your playstyle.

Full Metal Jaguar

The Full Metal Jaguar class option in Xenoblade Chronicles X

Full Metal Jaguar, Elma's class, is a high-risk, high-reward option. It enhances your critical hit rate when your HP falls below 50 percent, and one skill even ensures you maintain this lower HP state by reducing your health with each attack. The Ghost Factory skill enables allies to evade incoming attacks, while Electric Surge delivers ether damage—a rarity among melee classes. Even the basic skill, Shadowstrike, packs a punch, making Full Metal Jaguar a thrilling choice for those who thrive on the edge.

Duelist

The Duelist class option in Xenoblade Chronicles X

Duelist excels as a self-sufficient attacker, adept at both close-range and ranged combat. Armed with a longsword and an assault rifle, Duelists have access to a variety of useful skills. Last Stand, for example, uses your TP to boost the party's TP, ensuring that your teammates can unleash their most powerful attacks when needed.

Soul of the Samurai enhances basic attacks with area-of-effect properties, and True Stream Edge recovers TP when your morale level is high. However, Blossom Dance stands out as one of the game's best skills, staggering enemies, setting them up for toppling, and ignoring their resistances—proving invaluable against most foes, though less effective against certain Tyrants.

Mastermind

The Mastermind class option in Xenoblade Chronicles X

If you prefer manipulating enemy behavior over raw damage output, Mastermind is an excellent choice. While its arts may not be as potent as those of the Duelist, they significantly ease the burden of long battles against tough opponents. Mastermind can remove enemy buffs and, at level seven, learns a skill that reduces enemy debuff resistance upon landing an attack. Additionally, it offers TP-boosting abilities and a capstone art that inflicts the virus effect. Mastermind requires attentive play, but the strategic advantage it provides is well worth it.

Galactic Knight

The Galactic Knight class option in Xenoblade Chronicles X

Although commonly associated with Skell users, Galactic Knight offers substantial benefits beyond piloting giant robots. This class can remove debuffs, heal allies, and deliver heavy, specialized damage. Galactic Knights can also reduce their own cooldowns by executing melee combos. For Skell users, the class restores appendage HP and boosts combat power without any prerequisites, making it a versatile choice for players who enjoy both ground and Skell combat.
