Stellar Blade's Festive Holiday Update: A Cozy Christmas in Xion
Stellar Blade is decking the halls (and Xion) for the holidays with a new event launching December 17th. This update brings festive cheer, new outfits, decorations, and a mini-game. Let's dive into the details!
Holiday Cheer with New Outfits and Decorations:
Shift Up is bringing the holiday spirit to Xion. Expect new Christmas-themed costumes, decorations, and a fun mini-game. Eve and other characters sport festive attire:
- Santa Dress (Eve)
- Rudolph Pack (Drone)
- I'm No Santa (Adam)
Complete Eve's look with a Santa Girl hairstyle and accessories like Snow Crystal Glasses, Wreath Earrings, and Sleigh Ear Cuffs.
Xion itself gets a holiday makeover, adorned with warm lights and festive red, green, and white decorations. The Last Gulp and Eve's camp share the festive spirit, complemented by new seasonal BGM ("Dawn (Winter)" and "Take me away").
A New Mini-Game Awaits:
The update introduces a new mini-game in Xion. While details are scarce, it involves shooting targets on a holiday-themed drone for special rewards.
Control Your Festive Fun:
A new option lets players enable or disable seasonal events, including the Nier:Automata DLC. Found in the Gameplay settings, "Seasonal Event Content" offers three choices:
- Auto: Automatically enables or disables based on the season.
- Disable: Deactivates seasonal content regardless of the season.
- Enable: Activates seasonal content regardless of the season.
Note: Changing this setting requires a game restart.
Mixed Reception:
The update's announcement on Twitter (X) was largely well-received, with fans affectionately calling Eve "Christmas Eve." However, some questioned the frequency of event updates in a single-player game with a relatively short playtime (around 30 hours). The need to restart the game to fully enjoy the seasonal content was also a point of contention.
This contrasts with games featuring multiplayer or high replayability, where cosmetic packs and rewards can be enjoyed more organically. In Stellar Blade, players might feel pressured to restart to fully experience the holiday additions after completing the main story.
