Persona 4 Golden: How To Beat Magical Magus

Conquering Yukiko's Castle: Strategies for the Magical Magus in Persona 4 Golden

Yukiko's Castle, the first major dungeon in Persona 4 Golden, presents a gradual difficulty curve. While early floors are manageable, later floors introduce the formidable Magical Magus, a powerful random encounter. This guide details its weaknesses and effective strategies for defeating it.

Magical Magus Weaknesses and Skills

The Magical Magus's elemental affinities are as follows:

Null Strong Weak
Fire Wind Light

The Magical Magus utilizes several damaging skills. Its primary attacks are fire-based, making fire-resistant accessories crucial. These accessories, often found in golden chests within Yukiko's Castle, are invaluable not only for this encounter but also for the final boss battle.

Be wary of its magic-charging animation. Guard on the following turn to mitigate the devastating effects of Agilao, a powerful fire spell. While Hysterical Slap inflicts significant physical damage (hitting twice), Agilao poses the greater threat. Consider having Chie and Yosuke guard to avoid being one-shotted. The protagonist, uniquely capable of wielding light skills early in the game, is key to this fight.

Early-Game Persona with Light Skills: Archangel

Archangel, a level 11 Persona, is the ideal choice for exploiting the Magical Magus's weakness. It naturally possesses Hama, an instant-kill light skill effective against the Magus's weakness. Furthermore, it learns Media at level 12, a valuable healing skill for the final boss fight.

Archangel can be fused using:

  • Slime (Level 2)
  • Forneus (Level 6)

Hama's instant-kill nature ensures a high success rate, often resulting in a swift victory. This makes the otherwise challenging Magical Magus a relatively easy target. Farming the Magus for experience is viable, provided you have sufficient SP recovery items or are prepared to enter the final boss fight with less SP than usual.
