When you spot an eligible opponent, you can initiate a duel by pressing the R1 and L1 buttons simultaneously within a brief window of opportunity.

Once a duel starts, a ring of soldiers forms around you, setting the stage for an intense personal battle. Unlike the usual melee, duels feature a unique mechanic where a meter at the top of the screen represents both combatants' progress. Each successful hit you land on your opponent advances your portion of the meter, while their hits push theirs forward. The objective is to fill the meter completely with your color by outdamaging your opponent.

If you're on a winning streak, your segment of the meter will be larger, reflecting your dominance. Conversely, a losing streak will shrink your meter, giving your opponent the upper hand. If the battle is neck-and-neck, the meter will be evenly split.

In a duel, timing and strategy are key. You must closely observe your opponent's moves, dodging and parrying to minimize damage, while keeping a safe distance if they're about to unleash a Battle Art. The duel has a time limit, but rushing in recklessly can be your downfall.
