Warhorse Studios confirms: Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 (KCD2) will launch DRM-free. Despite online speculation, the medieval RPG will not include any digital rights management (DRM) software.
Warhorse Studios Clarifies: No DRM for KCD2
Rumors of KCD2 DRM are False
Following player concerns, Warhorse Studios' PR head, Tobias Stolz-Zwilling, explicitly stated during a Twitch stream that KCD2 will not utilize Denuvo or any other DRM system. He addressed the spread of misinformation surrounding the game's DRM status, emphasizing that the studio never confirmed its inclusion.
Stolz-Zwilling directly appealed to gamers to cease inquiries about DRM, stating, "KCD 2 will not have Denuvo; it will not have any DRM system at all." He urged fans to stop flooding their social media with questions on the topic, clarifying that any unconfirmed information is inaccurate.
The absence of DRM is welcome news to many gamers concerned about potential performance impacts and negative experiences associated with DRM software, particularly Denuvo. While Denuvo functions as anti-piracy protection, it has faced criticism for allegedly causing performance issues in some games.
Denuvo's product manager, Andreas Ullmann, has previously acknowledged the negative perception of Denuvo, attributing it to misinformation and confirmation bias. He described the strong negative reaction as "toxic."
Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 launches February 2025 on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S. Set in medieval Bohemia, the game follows Henry, a blacksmith's apprentice, whose village is devastated by tragedy. Players who contributed at least $200 to the KCD2 Kickstarter campaign will receive a free copy.
