Hasbro hints at Baldur's Gate updates soon

Baldur's Gate 3 continues to captivate players even 18 months after launch, with many fans embarking on their second, third, or even tenth playthrough. Now that developer Larian has announced its departure from the series, Hasbro faces the challenge of determining Baldur's Gate's next chapter. Fortunately, updates about the franchise's future appear imminent.

During this week's Game Developers Conference, Hasbro's SVP of digital games Dan Ayoub hinted to IGN that numerous parties have expressed interest in Baldur's Gate following Larian's exit.

"We're currently planning the franchise's future direction," Ayoub revealed. "Actually, we'll have some announcements to share about this quite soon."

While Ayoub declined to specify whether these plans involve a full Baldur's Gate sequel or another crossover (like the previous Magic: The Gathering collaboration), he confirmed his personal desire for a Baldur's Gate 4, though recognizing such a project would require significant development time.

"It's a challenging position to be in," Ayoub admitted. "We're taking a deliberate, measured approach. We have multiple potential directions and are beginning to share some preliminary information. Expect more concrete details in the near future."

Ayoub acknowledged the immense pressure to deliver a worthy successor to Baldur's Gate 3, noting this expectation influences other Dungeons & Dragons projects, including Hasbro's 2023 game announcement.

"I welcome creative challenges," Ayoub stated. "This situation pushes us to elevate our standards, and our development team is already generating ambitious new concepts. Our goal is to continually raise the bar with each project."

Our conversation with Ayoub also covered Magic: The Gathering, Hasbro's collaboration with Saber Interactive, and broader gaming strategy. The complete interview will be available next week.
