Disney Unveils Significant Theme Park Updates for March

Disneyland and Walt Disney World are significantly overhauling their Genie+ ride reservation system, effective July 2024. This update addresses widespread guest concerns regarding the current system's limitations.

The most notable change is the introduction of advance booking. Guests staying at Disney resorts can now reserve Lightning Lane Multi-Passes (the rebranded Genie+) up to seven days prior to arrival, while other guests can book up to three days ahead. This pre-planning capability contrasts sharply with the current system, which requires same-day bookings. The Lightning Lane Single Pass will also be introduced for individual rides.

This shift aims to alleviate the stress of booking rides during a park visit. The new system merges elements of the old FastPass+ system with the existing Genie+, offering guests more control over their park experience. All currently available Genie+ attractions will remain accessible through the Lightning Lane Multi-Pass, including the newly opened Tiana's Bayou Adventure at Disney World.

While Walt Disney World will experience the full extent of these changes, including the advance booking feature, Disneyland will primarily see the name change from Genie+ to Lightning Lane Multi-Pass. The booking and redemption processes will remain largely unchanged at Disneyland. The Virtual Queue system, used for popular rides like Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind, will remain unaffected.

Disney's response to guest feedback is evident in these modifications. The ability to pre-plan Lightning Lane reservations should significantly improve the guest experience, especially during peak seasons and special events. The success of this revamped system, however, remains to be seen and will be closely watched by park-goers and industry analysts alike.
