Choosing Your Path in Citizen Sleeper 2: A Class Comparison
At the outset of Citizen Sleeper 2, you'll face a crucial decision: selecting your character's class. Operator, Machinist, and Extractor each offer unique strengths and weaknesses, impacting your gameplay experience. This guide analyzes each class, helping you choose the best fit for your playstyle.
Operator
The Operator begins with a bonus in Interface, foundational levels in Intuit and Engage, and no Engineer skill. Endure is unavailable for leveling. Their special ability lets them trade Stress for a re-roll of their lowest die.
While powerful later, the Operator can struggle early on. The Interface skill is valuable, but the re-roll ability isn't always reliable. Roleplaying-wise, the Operator is versatile, adaptable to various character concepts.
Machinist
The Machinist starts with a bonus in Engineer, base levels in Interface and Intuit, and no Endure. Engage is not levelable. Their ability allows them to spend Stress to add +2 to their lowest die, also reducing Stress upon a positive outcome. This ability improves as the game progresses.
The Machinist proved to be a favorite in my playthrough. Their ability is incredibly useful for overcoming challenges, particularly given the frequent need for Engineer and Interface checks. The built-in Stress reduction is a significant advantage. Roleplaying-wise, this class suits players interested in the game's technical aspects.
Extractor
The Extractor begins with a bonus in Endure, base levels in Engineer and Engage, and no Interface. Intuit is unlevelable. Their ability allows them to spend Stress to add +2 to their crew's lowest die, with upgrades enhancing this throughout the game.
The Extractor's ability is highly effective for mitigating Contract risks. The starting Endure bonus is also valuable, although the abundance of crew members with Endure and Engage later in the game might lessen its impact. Roleplaying-wise, this class is ideal for players who prefer a tougher, more resilient character.
This guide provides a comparison of the three classes in Citizen Sleeper 2, helping you make an informed decision based on your preferred playstyle and character archetype.
