Tides Of Annihilation Trailer Showcases Fast-Paced Combat
A Sneak Peek Into An Apocalyptic London
First unveiled at the recent PlayStation State of Play, the hack-and-slash action-adventure game Tides of Annihilation has sparked significant interest with its newly released extended gameplay trailer.
The trailer features early development gameplay footage with protagonist Gwendolyn and her sword-transforming companion, Niniane, navigating the ruins of a desolate, otherworldly London devastated by an Outworld invasion. As they venture through the crumbling streets, they encounter enemies obstructing their path. The trailer reveals Gwendolyn's unique ability to summon over ten legendary knights, inspired by King Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table.
After clearing enemies and further exploring through a magical portal, the duo engages in a boss fight with Mordred, a character with opposing goals to Gwendolyn's. This boss fight highlights the game's action-packed combat, underscored by a haunting choir before concluding.
According to the game's producer, Kun Fu, featured on the PlayStation.Blog, the battle system will incorporate "intuitive co-op combat in a single-player experience." Players can summon two spectral knights with distinct combat roles at a time, necessitating strategic gameplay. "The interplay between Gwendolyn and the knights creates a dynamic, fast-paced, and deeply engaging combat experience," Fu states, adding that the system was a hit during internal playtests by the team, comprised of veterans from top game studios.
A Nod To Devil May Cry And Bayonetta
The trailer has garnered positive feedback from viewers, who commend its art direction, style, and fluid hack-and-slash combat, drawing comparisons to classic titles like Devil May Cry and Bayonetta. Enthusiasts also see similarities with games such as Elden Ring, NieR: Automata, Stellar Blade, and Final Fantasy 16. The community has expressed immense enthusiasm and potential for the game, with many planning to purchase it upon release.
Tides of Annihilation is the debut title from Chengdu-based game studio Eclipse Glow Games, blending Arthurian legend with an alternate modern-day London setting. Players will step into the role of heroine Gwendolyn, a survivor of an apocalyptic event. While no specific release window has been confirmed, the game is set to launch on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S.
