Tingklik is a traditional Balinese musical instrument

Tingklik is a traditional Balinese percussion instrument crafted from bamboo blades that are played by striking them with a bamboo mallet called a "pelaga tingklik." This unique gamelan instrument comes in two varieties: Tingklik Polos (plain) and Tingklik Sangsih (ornamented). Each tingklik consists of eleven to twenty-five bamboo blades, with the number varying according to the musical scale being played.

The instrument is played using both hands - the right hand typically plays the melody (kotekan) while the left hand maintains the rhythm (bungkah). In some performance styles, the hands reverse roles with the right playing the ornamented parts (sangsih) and the left playing the basic tones (polos).

Tingklik produces its characteristic resonant sounds through the carefully tuned bamboo blades that vibrate when struck. The instrument's distinctive timbre adds texture and rhythm to traditional Balinese gamelan ensembles, creating earthy, percussive tones that complement metallic gamelan instruments.

Historically, tingklik was played during village ceremonies and temple festivals across Bali. Today, it remains an important part of Balinese musical heritage, often featured in traditional performances and gamelan compositions that highlight bamboo instruments.
