A Classic Card Game

This popular three-player game uses a 24-card deck with the following current rules:

Game Mechanics

  • Players need 880 points to qualify for a "barrel" play
  • Points are cleared after 3 unsuccessful barrel attempts
  • A "bolt" is given when failing to score in a round
  • Three bolts result in a 120-point penalty
  • Surrendering players face penalties equal to their declaration, with opponents receiving half that amount

Game Settings

  • Victory requires exceeding 1000 points
  • Points reset at either 555 or -555 points
  • Option for barrel declaration without bidding
  • Card redistribution if talon/hand falls below point threshold
  • Ace marriage scoring
  • Golden round bonus
  • Collaborative barrel play options

Barrel Game Conditions

A player may declare barrel when reaching 880 points on their "own turn" - defined by having first bidding priority. This automatically wins the bidding regardless of opponents' cards. Failed attempts result in penalties:

  • 120-point fine for unsuccessful barrel attempt
  • Points clear after 3 failures
  • Non-turn barrels proceed normally but award no points
  • Multiple players may qualify simultaneously, with priority going to current bidder
