Bloodlines 2 Offers Refunds Amid Major Changes

Author : Lily Update:Sep 07,2026

Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2 publisher Paradox is now issuing refunds for PlayStation Store pre-orders as it implements "major changes" to address the significant backlash over its decision to place certain clans behind a DLC paywall.

The controversy ignited when it was confirmed that Bloodlines 2 would initially launch with four clans: Brujah, Tremere, Banu Haqim, and Ventrue. While these offer varied starting paths for character building, it’s a notably smaller selection than the original cult classic, which presented players with a choice of seven clans.

The developer, The Chinese Room, later expanded the lineup with two additionals clans—Lasombra and Toreador. However, these were only available as part of the paid "Shadows and Silk" add-on pack, priced at $21.99 as standalone DLC or bundled in the $89.99 Premium Edition. The standard base game is priced at $59.99.

With this DLC available from launch day, the situation created a perception that the complete clan roster was being segmented at release, with the "full" experience reserved for players willing to pay extra. As anticipated, the fan community quickly voiced its discontent.

During gamescom 2025, a Paradox representative told IGN the decision was a commercially-driven one based on "business" considerations, which only intensified the outcry. Then, last month, a Discord post from Paradox hinted at a substantial revision before the game’s launch. Now, the publisher has escalated its response by proactively refunding PlayStation Store pre-orders.

"Hi everyone," began a social media post from the official Bloodlines 2 account. "We are making adjustments and will share all the details on September 17. Implementing significant changes takes time, and we are committed to getting this right.

"All PlayStation Store pre-orders will be refunded on September 8. You will be able to place a new pre-order ahead of the game’s launch on October 21.

"Thank you for your patience; we will have more to share soon!"

This move has led fans to speculate whether Paradox will now include the Lasombra and Toreador clans in the base game at its standard price, rather than locking them behind DLC. The prevailing sentiment across online discussions indicates this is precisely what the community expects.

"Honestly, the only way to win me back is to fully include them in the base game at its advertised price," one social media user responded to the announcement. "Anything less, and I'll be skipping this title."

"The only way to salvage trust with the community is to release the base game with all clans included," suggested another fan. "They could then sell DLC containing new side stories and cosmetics separately, or bundle those extras into a higher-tier edition like a Deluxe or Premium version. This approach wouldn't fracture the core narrative experience."

Some expressed appreciation for the publisher’s responsiveness to player feedback. "I’m very excited and hopeful to see your solution for the two clans locked behind DLC," one fan commented. "Thank you for listening to the community and working to address the issue. I’m sure refunding store pre-orders was not an easy decision to make."

Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2 has endured a turbulent development cycle with numerous high-profile delays, making this a critical release for Paradox. The publisher is undoubtedly eager to position the game for success, and reversing its DLC strategy may now be the most viable path forward.
