World of Warcraft's Feast of Winter Veil: A Lore-Filled Holiday Celebration
World of Warcraft's annual Feast of Winter Veil, a festive in-game event mirroring Christmas, returns with fresh rewards and activities. This year's celebration is enhanced by a new lore video, a collaboration with PlatinumWoW, exploring the holiday's rich history in Azeroth.
The video delves into the event's origins, weaving together Dwarven myths of Greatfather Winter – a Titan-forged giant who brings the snow – and Tauren traditions of spiritual renewal and gratitude to the Earthmother. It also highlights the modern-day commercialization of Winter Veil by Smokeywood Pastures, a Goblin enterprise echoing real-world Christmas traditions.
Metzen the Reindeer's Misadventures
No Winter Veil story is complete without mentioning Metzen the Reindeer, named after former Warcraft creative director Chris Metzen. The video humorously recounts Metzen's three kidnappings: by pirates and Dark Iron Dwarves in Classic WoW, and later by the Grinch in the current iteration. The video concludes with a fittingly amusing thank you from Metzen, voiced in Thrall's iconic tone (a nod to Metzen's voice acting).
A Continuing Collaboration
This isn't PlatinumWoW's first official collaboration with Blizzard. Past projects include lore videos on Nerubians, Vrykul, the Scourge, World Trees, and Blackrock Depths, alongside guides for events like Season of Discovery and Plunderstorm. This showcases Blizzard's ongoing commitment to engaging content creator partnerships. Other recent collaborations include Taliesin & Evitel's guides for returning Dragonflight players and Hurricane's stunning cinematic trailers for WoW Classic.
Winter Veil Festivities Continue
Players can still participate in the Feast of Winter Veil until January 5th, 2024. This year's highlights include a tamable Dreaming Festive Reindeer for Hunters, new holiday transmogs, and the Grunch pet. Don't forget to check under the tree in Orgrimmar or Stormwind for a special gift – perhaps a surprise like last year's Junior Timekeeper's Racing Belt toy!
