The highly anticipated remake of Persona 4 seems to be gaining credibility, as Yuri Lowenthal, the iconic voice actor behind Yosuke Hanamura, recently confirmed he won’t be reprising his role for the rumored project. In a post on BlueSky, Lowenthal stated that despite reaching out—or perhaps even pleading—to be included, he was informed that his return as Yosuke wasn’t desired.
This revelation comes amid persistent rumors surrounding the Persona 4 remake, although Atlus has yet to officially confirm its development. We’ve contacted Sega/Atlus for further clarification.
It’s worth noting that video game voice actors represented by SAG-AFTRA are currently on strike over concerns regarding AI usage in the industry. While Lowenthal is a member of the union, it remains unclear whether this issue influenced the casting decision. The union continues to advocate for stronger protections for its members, emphasizing ongoing challenges in negotiations with the industry.
Despite the lack of official announcements, whispers of a Persona 4 remake have persisted for some time. Earlier this year, a domain registration linked to the franchise fueled speculation, while various leaks have hinted at its existence.
Interestingly, this information being revealed through a former voice actor contrasts with typical industry practices. Following the success of Persona 3 Reload, a remake of Persona 4 feels like a logical next step for fans and developers alike.
As for timing, Persona 3 Reload was unveiled during Xbox’s Game Showcase in summer 2023. Perhaps we can expect an official announcement for Persona 4 during this year’s wave of summer reveals.
In other Persona news, the mobile and PC spin-off Persona 5: The Phantom X is set to launch on June 26, 2025, offering players more content inspired by Persona 5.
