Alongside exciting new updates, Disney has officially announced that EPCOT's Test Track presented by General Motors at Walt Disney World Resort will reopen on July 22, 2025.
As shared on the Disney Parks Blog, this latest version of the attraction introduces a fresh musical score and immersive new scenes designed to showcase how technology is making vehicles smarter and enhancing everyday life.
One of the standout additions highlights the innovation behind autonomous driving. The scene demonstrates how modern vehicles use advanced cameras and sensors to navigate their surroundings, offering guests a glimpse into the future of mobility. It also explores how LiDAR technology contributes to vehicle safety—allowing cars to operate without direct driver input.
In contrast to previous versions of the ride, which took place in a conceptual or futuristic world, this updated iteration of Test Track is grounded in real-world experiences. As part of this new direction, one section of the ride simulates a scenic drive through the Pacific Northwest.
Walt Disney Imagineering’s Nathaniel Gearhart explained the vision: “In our reimagined Test Track, we're really celebrating the pleasure of driving and going on a scenic drive with your friends and family. It's about taking these trips that are memory makers.”
To create an authentic Pacific Northwest atmosphere, Imagineers carefully selected four types of trees—Cedar, Spruce, Maple, and Oak—to be featured throughout the landscape. Overhead foliage adds to the realism, mimicking a natural forest canopy.
Originally opened in 1999, Test Track received its first major overhaul in 2012. Now, after closing for refurbishment on June 17, 2024, it will return in 2025 as Test Track 3.0—offering a next-generation experience that blends storytelling, innovation, and scenic beauty.
This reopening is just one of many exciting developments coming to Walt Disney World this summer. In fact, it's one of the top reasons why this season is shaping up to be a fantastic time to visit, thanks to the park’s Cool Kid Summer events and offerings.
