Balatro itself enjoyed phenomenal success in 2024, selling over 3.5 million copies and earning critical acclaim. The mutual respect between these two indie developers, both achieving remarkable feats in 2024, is evident in Basso's response, indirectly naming LocalThunk the "Nicest Most Humble Dev of the Year." Fans celebrated the positive interaction and camaraderie within the indie game development community.
Beyond Animal Well, LocalThunk also shared a list of his other favorite indie games of 2024, including Dungeons and Degenerate Gamblers, Arco, Nova Drift, Ballionaire, and Mouthwashing, offering brief commentary on each.
