There’s no doubt that the release of Final Destination: Bloodlines has fans thrilled, marking the long-awaited sixth installment in the legendary franchise. As expected, the film pays tribute to one of horror’s most unforgettable figures—Tony Todd. Known for his chilling portrayal of Candyman, Todd delivers a deeply moving monologue in this latest entry. What makes it even more powerful? The emotional speech was completely unscripted, as confirmed by producer Craig Perry, who described Tony Todd’s final on-screen moment as “very bittersweet.”
Speaking with Deadline, Perry reflected on the experience of bringing Bloodlines to life and working on the franchise since its debut in 2000. He acknowledged that Todd's health was visibly declining during filming.
“We all knew he was quite ill,” Perry shared. “It was pretty clear that this would be the last movie role he’d ever play. And given that it was part of the Final Destination series, it made the moment all the more meaningful.”
Directors Zach Lipovsky and Adam Stein made what Perry called a bold but brilliant choice when shooting Todd’s scene—allowing him to speak directly from the heart instead of sticking to the script.
“They decided to drop the last couple of scripted lines and said, ‘Tony, just say what you want to say to the fans. What would you like to impart to them in this moment?’” Perry recalled. “That entire emotional moment came straight from Tony himself. He was speaking directly to the fans who supported him throughout his career. It was an incredibly magical and moving moment on set—one I’ll carry with me forever.”
