Tides of Annihilation, drawing inspiration from Arthurian legend, casts players as Gwendolyn, a young woman battling alongside spectral knights to rescue her family and mend a fractured world.
The game unfolds in a ravaged, modern-day London, overrun by a mysterious otherworldly invasion. Players will confront hordes of enemies alongside their ghostly allies, the most formidable being colossal, roaming knights. Combat involves intense, close-quarters battles, often requiring players to scale these gigantic foes.
While visually impressive, the game's narrative presents a challenge. Recent soulslike titles have successfully reimagined classic stories – "Journey to the West" offered a fresh perspective to Western audiences, and "Lies of P" provided a unique twist on Pinocchio. However, Tides of Annihilation's King Arthur premise feels somewhat overused, lacking the distinctive hook needed to truly captivate players despite its undeniable visual appeal.
