The Steam FPS game, Fortune's Run, faces an indefinite delay due to its sole developer, Dizzie, receiving a three-year prison sentence. This unique circumstance, unlike typical delays stemming from financial or technical issues, leaves the game in early access limbo.
Fortune's Run, despite being in early access, had garnered a "Very Positive" Steam rating, praised for its nostalgic art style and engaging gameplay. However, all further development is now on hold until Dizzie's release. While the game's Steam page targets a 2026 release from early access, this is highly unlikely given the circumstances. The precedent of other games, such as Satisfactory's extended early access period, suggests that a three-year delay wouldn't be unprecedented in the indie game sphere.
Dizzie's announcement on January 14th revealed the prison sentence, a consequence of a past crime unrelated to the game's development. Dizzie acknowledged their past violent behavior. While the developer assures the game's completion upon release from prison, the future of Fortune's Run remains uncertain. Players can still access the current early access build, and numerous other early access shooters on Steam offer alternatives in the meantime. The original team member departed the project following a surgery and subsequent loss of interest in game development, leaving Dizzie as the sole developer. The prison sentence commences in February 2025.
