Square Enix RPG Returns to Nintendo Switch eShop

Triangle Strategy Returns to Nintendo Switch eShop

Good news for RPG fans! Triangle Strategy, the acclaimed tactical RPG from Square Enix, is back on the Nintendo Switch eShop after a temporary removal. The game's brief absence, lasting several days, has ended, allowing players to once again purchase and download the title.

This popular Square Enix game, lauded for its revival of classic tactical RPG gameplay, drew comparisons to franchises like Fire Emblem. Its strategic unit placement and combat mechanics resonated with players.

The reason for the delisting remains unconfirmed. However, speculation points to Square Enix's recent acquisition of the game's publishing rights from Nintendo. This isn't the first time a Square Enix title has experienced a short-lived removal from the eShop; Octopath Traveler faced a similar situation last year. However, Triangle Strategy's return was significantly quicker, taking only four days compared to Octopath Traveler's several-week absence.

This event highlights the strong ongoing relationship between Square Enix and Nintendo. This partnership has resulted in several Nintendo Switch exclusives, including the Final Fantasy Pixel Remaster series (initially exclusive) and the definitive edition of Dragon Quest 11. Square Enix's history of console exclusives stretches back to the original Final Fantasy on the NES, demonstrating a lasting connection with Nintendo, even as their releases expand to other platforms. The PlayStation 5 exclusive Final Fantasy VII Rebirth and the originally Switch-exclusive Dragon Quest XI further illustrate this trend.
