Hazelight Games has announced that its latest co-op adventure game, Split Fiction, continues to enjoy a stellar start, having sold 2 million copies within just one week of its release. Launched on March 6 for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X and S, the game featuring dual protagonists has quickly established itself as another success for the studio. Hazelight expressed their astonishment on social media, stating they are "blown away" by the enthusiastic support from both new and existing fans.
The studio had previously shared that Split Fiction achieved a remarkable milestone by selling 1 million copies within the first 48 hours of its launch. This means an additional million copies were sold in the subsequent five days, highlighting the game's rapid rise in popularity.
As a cooperative game, Split Fiction likely has engaged far more players than the number of copies sold, thanks in part to its innovative Friend's Pass feature. This allows one player to buy the game and invite a friend to play for free, significantly boosting its reach within the gaming community. As word of mouth and social media buzz continue to propel the game forward, the sales figures are expected to climb even higher.
Hazelight's previous release, the 2021 Game of the Year winner It Takes Two, followed a similar trajectory of success. It sold around 1 million copies shortly after its launch in March 2021, eventually reaching 10 million copies by February 2023 and an impressive 20 million copies by October 2024.
In IGN's review of Split Fiction, the game was praised as "an expertly crafted co-op adventure that pinballs from one genre extreme to another," showcasing its dynamic and engaging gameplay experience.
