Sony has provided an update on the classic PlayStation, PS2, PS3, and PS4 limited-time console themes for the PS5, as well as future prospects for additional themes.
In a tweet, Sony announced that the beloved classic themes will be removed tomorrow, January 31, 2025. However, there's good news for PS5 users who've cherished the nostalgia of those iconic boot-up sounds: these themes will make a comeback at some point in the future.
"Thank you for the fantastic response to the classic PlayStation, PS2, PS3, and PS4 limited-time console themes, which will be leaving tomorrow," Sony stated. "Due to the overwhelming positive feedback on these four themes, we’re working behind the scenes to bring these special designs back in the coming months."

Unfortunately, there's also some disappointing news. In a follow-up tweet, Sony clarified that they have no plans to introduce new themes moving forward. Here's their statement:
"While there aren’t plans to create additional themes in the future, we're excited to keep celebrating legacy PlayStation hardware with you all."
The fanbase expressed their disappointment over the lack of new themes for the PS5, which has been a missed feature from previous console generations. According to Sony's statement, it appears unlikely that new themes will be added to the current console generation.
The nostalgia themes allowed PS5 users to customize their home screen and menus with styles reminiscent of the PSOne, PS2, PS3, and PS4, in celebration of PlayStation's 30th anniversary on December 3, 2024. The PSOne theme features the classic console on the home screen background, the PS2 theme incorporates its distinctive menu shapes, the PS3 theme includes its iconic wave background, and the PS4 theme adds the wave patterns seen in its previous generation's background. Each theme also includes the unique sound effects of its respective console.
