Yesterday, Square Enix announced the next chapter in the Dragon Quest series, revealing that Dragon Quest Smash/Grow will launch on iOS and Android in 2026. Today, we got our first official glimpse of the game with a new teaser trailer and details about the upcoming closed beta test, set to begin this October.

Dragon Quest Smash/Grow steps away from the classic turn-based combat, embracing a roguelite action experience built around momentum. Battle through waves of monsters, grow stronger as you progress, and finish fights with powerful, cinematic Coup de Grâce moves that long-time fans of the series will instantly recognize.

Each run is unpredictable thanks to Blessings, a dynamic system that lets you choose randomized abilities like health restoration and attack boosts, allowing you to adapt your strategy as you advance. As expected in any roguelite, no two playthroughs will be the same.

This isn’t the first mobile entry in the Dragon Quest franchise, but it feels like a fresh start. With Dragon Quest of the Stars having recently shut down, there’s been a void for a flagship mobile RPG experience. Smash/Grow appears poised to fill that role, blending the fast-paced action of a roguelite with the charm and grandeur of the mainline series.
