The Last of Us has captivated audiences with its critically acclaimed television adaptation, prompting eager speculation about its future. With Season 3 already greenlit prior to the premiere of Season 2, fans are now asking: will there be a Season 4?
According to showrunner Craig Mazin, the answer leans heavily toward yes. In an interview with Collider, Mazin explained that attempting to wrap up the entire story from both Naughty Dog-developed video games within just three seasons would make Season 3 excessively long—what he called "a forever season." While Season 3 may indeed be longer than its predecessor, Mazin made it clear that concluding the full narrative in that season alone isn’t feasible.
He elaborated: “There’s no way to complete this narrative in a third season,” adding that there’s a “decent chance” Season 3 will expand further than originally anticipated. However, to properly conclude the saga, a fourth season appears not only likely—but necessary.
Mazin expressed confidence in the show’s trajectory, stating: “Hopefully, we’ll earn our keep enough to come back and finish it in a fourth. That’s the most likely outcome.”
