Pokémon Scarlet and Violet have become some of the most successful entries in the Pokémon franchise, with sales soaring to over 25 million copies. As reported by Serebii.net webmaster Joe Merrick and noted by Eurogamer, these games have surpassed all Pokémon titles since the iconic Pokémon Red/Green/Blue, which sold 31.4 million copies upon its release in 1996 for the Game Boy.
Scarlet and Violet have edged out Pokémon Sword/Shield by a mere 70,000 units, with the latter selling 26,720,000 copies. The top five best-selling Pokémon games are rounded out by Gold/Silver and Diamond/Pearl, with sales figures of 23.7 million and 16.7 million, respectively.
Despite their commercial success, Scarlet and Violet received a mixed reception at launch. They debuted with scores that rank among the lowest for mainline Pokémon games, primarily due to fans' dissatisfaction with technical issues, performance problems, and bugs. In IGN's Pokémon Scarlet and Violet review, the game was rated a 6/10, with the comment: "The open-world gameplay of Pokémon Scarlet and Violet is a brilliant direction for the future of the franchise, but this promising shift is sabotaged by the numerous ways in which Scarlet and Violet feel deeply unfinished."Looking ahead, Pokémon Legends: Z-A is slated for release later this year. Set in Lumiose City, the game will feature an urban redevelopment plan aimed at creating a harmonious environment for both people and Pokémon. Last October, a leak surfaced online sharing unverified information about several Pokémon games, including Legends Z-A. In response, Nintendo has recently subpoenaed Discord to identify the individual behind the "TeraLeak."
