Originally released in 1999 for the Game Boy Color, Pokémon Gold and Silver, developed by Game Freak, were lauded for their groundbreaking features. Their Western release followed in 1999 and 2001 for North America and Europe respectively. A key innovation was the in-game clock, influencing Pokémon appearances and events. The games also introduced 100 new Pokémon (Gen 2), including fan favorites like Pichu, Cleffa, Hoothoot, Chikorita, Umbreon, Ho-Oh, and Lugia. A 10th-anniversary remake, Pokémon HeartGold and SoulSilver, arrived on the Nintendo DS in 2009.
