How the Perfect Dark Cast is Responding to the Cancellation

Perfect Dark was among the titles dropped after Microsoft's recent layoffs, but its lead actress, Alix Wilton Regan, has encouraged fans to voice their support if they want to see the game revived. In a July 4th post on X (formerly Twitter), Regan noted that many people have asked whether another studio might take over development.
She remarked, "I HOPE WE LIVE IN A NICE WORLD." Regan has lent her voice to numerous acclaimed video games, including Dragon Age: Inquisition (as the Female Inquisitor), Assassin’s Creed: Origins (as Aya), and Mass Effect 3 (as Samantha Traynor).
When news broke about the cancellation and the shutdown of developer The Initiative, Regan shared her sympathy for everyone impacted by the closure. In a July 3rd post on X, she wrote, "It’s been an honour to work with the talents at The Initiative. My heart hurts for everyone affected by today. But like Joanna, we will all rise again."
The Recurring Risk of Video Game Cancellations
Another actor from Perfect Dark also expressed their worries about the project being shelved and the time invested in it. Elias Toufexis posted on X on July 4th about how frequently games now face cancellation, and the financial uncertainty this creates for performers when development stops without warning.
Toufexis, who played an undisclosed role, is widely recognized for performances in titles like the Deus Ex series (as Adam Jensen), Far Cry Primal (as Takkar), and Starfield (as Sam Coe). He shared, "I had a good amount of days of acting in Perfect Dark that just got scrapped. Thousands of dollars that I expected and counted on gone in a snap ...now every game I do as director or actor I wake up hoping it isn’t canceled."

Some fans misunderstood his post to mean the actors hadn't been compensated for work already completed, prompting a swift clarification. In a follow-up tweet, Toufexis explained, "No no. The days I worked they pay me. They have to. But when you’re working on a game they "hold" you for x amount of days each month. (so I can schedule work around other games and shows)"
He reflected on those "hold" periods, thinking about the income he could have earned. "You can’t help but look at the holds and think about the $ that would have been made," Toufexis added.
In an email to staff on July 3rd, Xbox CEO Phil Spencer explained that these difficult decisions are part of the company's broader effort to "make choices now for continued success in future years and a key part of that strategy is the discipline to prioritize the strongest opportunities." Despite the current outlook, fans are still optimistic that another publisher or studio could acquire Perfect Dark and resume its development.
