Nintendo has unveiled a fresh, updated design for Diddy Kong, continuing the evolution of one of its most beloved characters. This follows recent visual changes made to Donkey Kong, his larger primate companion, earlier this year—changes that were first spotted in official artwork and early footage of Mario Kart World.
The new look for Diddy Kong was revealed through official artwork on Nintendo’s website and promotional materials displayed at Licensing Expo 2025 in Las Vegas. As reported by Nintendo Life, the updated design presents a slightly more cartoonish version of the character, featuring rounder eyes and a more expressive, friendly smile that gives him a livelier and more approachable appearance.
Photos shared by event attendee Cptn_Alex on social media show the new designs being prominently featured at Nintendo's booth, giving fans and licensing partners a closer look at the evolving aesthetics of both Diddy and Donkey Kong. These updates appear to align with the visual direction established in the highly successful *The Super Mario Bros. Movie*, where both characters made notable appearances.

Although Nintendo has not officially commented on the redesigns, many speculate that these aesthetic shifts are part of a broader effort to unify the characters’ appearances across games, films, and merchandise. Even Princess Peach received a subtle redesign ahead of her starring role in *Princess Peach: Showtime!*, adopting a look closer to her cinematic portrayal in the Mario movie.

Looking ahead, Donkey Kong is set to headline the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2 title *Donkey Kong Bananza*. While Diddy Kong’s involvement remains unconfirmed, the recent attention to detail in refreshing his design suggests he could very well be part of the adventure. The inclusion of other Kong family members like Cranky Kong further supports this theory.
Additionally, with news of a sequel to *The Super Mario Bros. Movie* in development—rumored to be titled *Super Mario World*—and the prominent roles both Donkey Kong and Diddy played in the original film, it seems increasingly likely that the Kongs will continue their cinematic journey, complete with their newly refreshed looks.
