Nearly 3,000 Nintendo Switch 2 units were stolen from a delivery truck transporting inventory between Nintendo of America's headquarters and a Texas GameStop location.
According to Denver 7, Colorado authorities investigating the theft estimate the stolen consoles are worth approximately $1.4 million. The crime was discovered mid-transport, though investigators remain uncertain about the exact location along the 1,332-mile route where the theft occurred.
Police are examining whether this was a carefully orchestrated heist targeting the shipment from Nintendo's Redmond headquarters or simply an opportunistic crime. The removal of multiple pallets suggests coordinated effort by the thieves.
If apprehended, suspects could face serious felony theft charges. The truck driver reportedly claimed unawareness about transporting Nintendo's next-generation consoles.

Authorities have established a tip line (720-874-8477) requesting public assistance with the investigation.
The Nintendo Switch 2 launched globally earlier this month, selling 3.5 million units in its initial sales period. While Nintendo has maintained steady inventory, thefts like this potentially strain distribution efforts.
High-value gaming hardware shipments have long been targeted by criminals. During PlayStation 5's 2020 launch, UK authorities reported sophisticated "rollover" thefts where gangs would intercept moving trucks, using specialized equipment to breach cargo areas at highway speeds.
This isn't Nintendo's first significant inventory loss - in 2015, thieves stole an entire truckload containing Splatoon games and collectible amiibo figures.
The incident marks another logistical challenge for GameStop, which previously made headlines for damaging Switch 2 units by stapling receipts to screens during the console's midnight launch.
