Nintendo Denies Genki's Switch 2 Claims
Following accessory maker Genki's CES 2025 presentation of a purported Nintendo Switch 2 prototype, Nintendo has issued a statement. The company clarified to CNET Japan and the Sankei Shimbun that the images and videos circulating are not official. Nintendo explicitly stated they did not provide Genki with any Switch 2 hardware.
Genki, an American manufacturer of electronics and gaming accessories (controllers, SSDs, chargers, etc.), generated significant buzz at CES 2025 by showcasing a 3D-printed mockup of the Switch 2. They also reportedly shared a purported release date with attendees and journalists, claiming possession of a functional Switch 2 unit. Their website even features a dedicated page for upcoming Switch 2 accessories, complete with a detailed animated mockup.
Nintendo, however, remains tight-lipped about the Switch 2's official details, only confirming plans for a future announcement and the console's backward compatibility with existing Switch games. This recent denial from Nintendo suggests an official announcement regarding the Switch 2 may be forthcoming.
