Get ready for another round of fatalities! The sequel to the 2021 Mortal Kombat reboot is officially on its way, and we've just gotten our first glimpse of a major addition to the cast: Karl Urban as Johnny Cage.
Mortal Kombat co-creator Ed Boon unveiled a poster featuring Urban as the iconic Hollywood actor and Mortal Kombat fighter. The poster cleverly mimics a fictional Johnny Cage film, complete with the over-the-top action you'd expect – two motorcycles leaping from flames!
Mortal Kombat 2 builds directly upon the 2021 film, which starred Lewis Tan as Cole Young, Hiroyuki Sanada as Scorpion, and Joe Taslim as Sub-Zero. Joining the returning cast are several newcomers, including Adeline Rudolph as Kitana, Tati Gabrielle as Jade, and Damon Herriman as Quan Chi.
The original film focused on Cole Young's introduction to the Mortal Kombat universe and the long-standing rivalry between Scorpion and Sub-Zero. Plot details for the sequel remain under wraps, but with the vast lore of the Mortal Kombat video game franchise to draw from, the possibilities are endless.
While the first film debuted on HBO Max due to the pandemic, Mortal Kombat 2 will hit theaters on October 24, 2025. Our review of the first film awarded it a 7 out of 10, praising its "spectacular display of blood, guts, and effects-heavy martial arts battles."
