Marvel Rivals Reverses Controversial Mid-Season Rank Reset Decision
Following significant player backlash, Marvel Rivals has reversed its decision to implement mid-season rank resets. The developer announced the change in Dev Talk 11, a swift response to the negative reception of Dev Talk 10, which detailed the planned reset dropping players four divisions.
The community voiced concerns that the frequent resets (proposed for every 45 days) were discouraging for players striving for higher ranks. In a remarkable turnaround, Marvel Rivals confirmed that there will be no mid-season rank reset. Players will retain their current ranks and scores from the first half of the season. However, the end-of-season reset, dropping players six divisions, remains in effect.
Other Updates Still Coming:
Despite the rank reset reversal, other planned updates are proceeding as scheduled. The highly anticipated addition of Human Torch and The Thing, expanding the hero roster to 39, is still on track. NetEase Games' commitment to adding two new heroes per three-month season remains unchanged.
Reward structures for Gold rank and above players also stay the same, with Gold rank and above players receiving an Invisible Woman costume. Grandmaster and above players will receive Crests of Honor. Additional rewards, including another free costume, will be awarded at the end of the season for players reaching Gold rank, with Grandmaster and above players receiving Crests of Honor. Balance adjustments are also planned, though specifics haven't been released.
Community Response and Developer Acknowledgement:
Marvel Rivals' rapid response to player feedback was widely praised. The developer acknowledged the community's concerns and emphasized its commitment to creating the best possible game experience, stating, "We strive to make Marvel Rivals the best game it can be, and the community is the driving force behind this mission! Your engagement and support mean the world to us, and we're excited to continue this journey together!"
The mid-season update is scheduled for release on February 21, 2025. Marvel Rivals is currently available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. Stay updated on all the latest news via the official Marvel Rivals channels.
