Marvel Rivals, the acclaimed hero shooter, is a smash hit on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. However, NetEase, the developer, has ruled out a Nintendo Switch release due to performance limitations. But what about the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2?
This question was put to Marvel Rivals producer Weicong Wu at the DICE Summit. The news for Switch fans is positive: a Switch 2 port is a strong possibility. Wu stated, "We're already in contact with Nintendo and working on some development kits. If we can achieve great performance on the Switch 2, we're open to it. The original Switch couldn't deliver the gameplay experience we wanted. If the Switch 2 meets that goal, we'll consider it."
The Nintendo Switch 2's official unveiling last month revealed a more powerful and larger system than its predecessor. Rumored mouse-like controller functionality could potentially enhance the shooter experience, bringing it closer to PC controls. The exact implementation remains to be seen.
While the Nintendo Switch 2 lacks a release date, a Nintendo Direct is scheduled for April 2nd. Marvel Rivals, meanwhile, is currently available on other platforms and has received high praise. Our 8/10 review lauded the game, stating it "might closely follow established hero shooters, but it's well-positioned to become the genre's leading title." The Human Torch and The Thing are slated to join the roster on February 21st.
