Marvel Rivals Mimics Rival Overwatch with "Spring Festival" Event

Marvel Rivals is kicking off its major Spring Festival event this Thursday! Get ready for a free Star-Lord costume and a brand-new game mode: Clash of Dancing Lions.

In this 3-on-3 mode, teams battle to score a ball in their opponent's goal. While the gameplay might remind some of Rocket League, it bears a closer resemblance to Overwatch's Lucioball – a similarly themed mode from Overwatch's early days.

This comparison is particularly interesting given Marvel Rivals' current trajectory. The game has arguably surpassed Overwatch in popularity and needs to establish its unique identity. However, its debut major event features a game mode strikingly similar to Overwatch's inaugural special event. The key difference lies in the theme: where Overwatch used an Olympic Games theme, Marvel Rivals embraces a vibrant Chinese New Year atmosphere.

The wait is short! The Spring Festival event begins this Thursday.
