Marvel Rivals Dev Feels Social Media Pressure, Announces Big Season 3 Changes

Author : Natalie Update:May 30,2025

NetEase Games is reshaping the post-launch strategy for Marvel Rivals, shortening seasons from three months to just two and committing to introducing at least one new hero each month. This significant adjustment was hinted at during the recently released Marvel Rivals Season 2 Dev Vision Vol. 5 video. The update revealed that Season 2 will feature the introduction of Emma Frost as part of the Vanguard lineup on April 11, with Ultron joining mid-season, whose class will be unveiled closer to his arrival.

Season 3, which currently lacks a confirmed release date, will continue the trend of rapid content delivery. While the wait between new heroes will initially remain at six weeks, subsequent releases will reduce that timeframe significantly.

As Marvel Rivals Creative Director Guangyun Chen stated in the Dev Vision video, "Since the launch of Season 1, we’ve been deeply contemplating how Marvel Rivals can continuously deliver fun and engaging experiences." He noted that feedback from social media has motivated the team to maintain the game's excitement levels.

The goal remains to bring players closer to their fantasies of Marvel Super Heroes through diverse modes and a robust roster of characters. Chen emphasized that extensive internal discussions have led to system adjustments to accommodate the accelerated pace of content releases. Further details on these changes will be shared prior to the launch of Season 3.

Season 2 introduces a new narrative centered around the Hellfire Gala, promising fresh outfits, maps, and characters. The game made a strong debut in December, attracting 10 million players within three days, and continued its success into January with 644,269 concurrent players on Steam. Despite a gradual decline in concurrent players, Marvel Rivals remains a top title on Steam. Updates such as Season 2 and the upcoming Season 3 are expected to reinvigorate player engagement.
