Tidepool Games has just released a thrilling, fast-paced pixel art game for Android enthusiasts called MageTrain. If you're a fan of Nimble Quest, you'll find MageTrain strikingly familiar, as it draws significant inspiration from that classic.
What's MageTrain Like?
MageTrain combines elements of Snake, auto-battlers, and roguelikes into a unique gaming experience. You guide a line of heroes, reminiscent of a snake, through various arenas. As you maneuver, each hero automatically attacks, keeping the gameplay dynamic and engaging. Your role is to strategically position each hero in the line, as their abilities shift depending on their placement, whether they're leading or following.
At launch, MageTrain offers nine heroes, including one who throws birds, each with unique skills that vary based on their position in the train. Navigate through eight diverse dungeons, battle against 28 different enemy types, and utilize 30 skills to enhance your team. Along the way, you'll collect gold and power-ups, adding to the excitement.
Thanks to its roguelike structure, every run in MageTrain is unique. You'll encounter branching paths, make crucial upgrade choices, and strive to survive as long as you can. Similar to games like Slay the Spire or FTL, there are no fixed levels, and you can't save your progress mid-run. A single mistake, like colliding with an obstacle or being overrun by enemies, means starting over.
It Isn’t Slow-Paced
The fun of MageTrain lies in the constant improvement you experience with each playthrough. Even when you don't win, you learn more about when to play defensively, when to launch a full offensive, and how to survive just a bit longer.
MageTrain is now available on Android and is free to play. Head over to the Google Play Store to dive into this exciting new game.
