The latest addition to the Nintendo Switch Online library is the Nintendo 64 classic, Killer Instinct Gold. This game, a port of the arcade fighter Killer Instinct 2, joins its predecessor, the original Killer Instinct, in the ever-growing collection of retro titles accessible to Online Expansion Pack subscribers.
Launched in 1996, Killer Instinct Gold was crafted by the renowned British studio Rare. At the time, Rare was a key second-party developer for Nintendo, renowned for creating iconic titles like Donkey Kong Country, Goldeneye 007, and Perfect Dark for Nintendo's early gaming systems. In Killer Instinct Gold, players can choose from a lineup of 10 formidable fighters and engage in various game modes, unleashing "hundreds of thousands of moves and killer Combos at your fingertips."
Now under the ownership of Microsoft, Rare's Killer Instinct series continues to expand its reach, with Killer Instinct Gold marking another Xbox Game Studios title available on the Switch. Since the launch of the Xbox One with Killer Instinct in 2013, there's been no news of Microsoft planning a new sequel to revive the franchise.

Nintendo Switch Online is a subscription service that enhances the gaming experience on the Nintendo Switch. It offers online multiplayer capabilities, allowing players to connect and play with friends, and provides access to an extensive library of classic games from the NES, SNES, Game Boy, Nintendo 64, and soon, the new GameCube libraries with the upcoming launch of the Nintendo Switch 2. New subscribers can try it out with a free seven-day trial.
Preorders for the Nintendo Switch 2 opened at the end of April, with the console priced at $449.99. Despite high demand, Nintendo issued a warning to U.S. customers pre-ordering from the My Nintendo Store that delivery on the release date isn't guaranteed. However, Nintendo of America's Doug Bowser reassured IGN that the company expects to meet consumer demand "through the holidays."
