Hyper Light Breaker, the much-anticipated sequel to the indie hit Hyper Light Drifter, brings a fresh twist to the original's formula. Transitioning from a 2D pixel art style to a vibrant 3D environment, it maintains its visual allure while introducing rogue-lite and extraction mechanics instead of a linear RPG. A standout feature is its multiplayer capability, which adds a new layer of enjoyment and collaboration to the game. This guide will walk you through how to play Hyper Light Breaker with friends, as well as how to engage in online matchmaking with random players.
How To Play Hyper Light Breaker With Friends
To enjoy Hyper Light Breaker's co-op multiplayer with your friends, you'll need to set up a Private multiplayer room. Once you spawn into the Cursed Outpost, the game's hub zone, navigate to the counter to the left of your commander, Pherus Bit, who is positioned opposite the entrance.
By pressing the Interact button (usually R1 or RB), you'll access the Multiplayer menu. From here, you can create or join a Breaker Team, and manage invitations. To play with friends, select "Create Breaker Team".
In the ensuing menu, enable "Password Required" and set a password. After creating your private Breaker Team, invite up to two friends via your platform's social service – compatible with PSN, Xbox, and Steam. The game supports groups of up to three players.
If your friend is already in-game, they'll receive the invitation in the "Invitations" tab of the Multiplayer menu. Alternatively, they can join through an invitation link sent to them.
Your team may also appear in the general listing of Breaker Teams if there's room for more. If other methods fail, your friend can search this list and join your Private group directly.
Once your friend accepts the invite and enters the password you've set, you're all set for some cooperative Hyper Light Breaker adventures.
Random Online Matchmaking In Hyper Light Breaker
If you're eager to play multiplayer without friends who own the game, Hyper Light Breaker's system facilitates the creation of public groups. You can either set up your own public group, omitting the password step, or opt into the game's matchmaking system to join a random group.
From the Cursed Outpost's multiplayer menu, choose "Join Breaker Team", then scroll to the bottom and select "Join Random Public Breaker Team".
The game will scan for available public, non-password-protected Breaker Teams and place you in one if available. After a brief load screen, you'll find yourself in the world of the Breaker Team's creator.
To exit a multiplayer session, revisit the counter in the Cursed Outpost and access the multiplayer menu. If you're currently in a session, an option to disconnect will appear at the bottom of the list. Selecting this will return you to your own world. Alternatively, simply quitting the game will also end the session.
