At Anime Expo 2024 in Los Angeles, RGG Studio hosted the "Essence of Fandom: Like a Dragon & Yakuza Experience." During the event, Chief Producer Hiroyuki Sakamoto and Ichiban Kasuga's voice actor, Kazuhiro Nakaya, teased the upcoming game, stating, "We can’t tell you what kind of game it is, but I will tell you, you’ll be surprised." This was confirmed by @TheYakuzaGuy on Twitter, who also noted it's a new addition to the Like a Dragon franchise.

The shift to a full-fledged JRPG in Like a Dragon 7 was already unexpected, so the nature of this "surprising" new entry remains a mystery.
