What can potential buyers in the U.S. expect regarding Nintendo Switch 2 availability at launch and throughout 2025? Doug Bowser, President of Nintendo of America, expressed confidence that the company will have sufficient stock to meet consumer demand "through the holidays."
In a conversation with IGN about the new Nintendo San Francisco store, Bowser noted the "strong" positive response to Switch 2 and outlined plans for a "continuous flow of product" in 2025. The Nintendo Switch 2 is set to launch on June 5.
Bowser referenced Nintendo President Shuntaro Furukawa's recent forecast: "Last week, Mr. Furukawa announced a target of 15 million units for Nintendo Switch 2 and 4.5 million units for the original Nintendo Switch this fiscal year."
"This projection aims to match the initial success of the first Nintendo Switch within its first ten months. For the U.S. market, we are confident our production and supply chain will adequately meet consumer demand. The early positive reaction, reflected in pre-order numbers, is strong, and we have a strategy to ensure a steady supply through the holiday season."
This is encouraging news for U.S. customers hoping to purchase a Switch 2 this year. Securing a pre-order for the console has proven challenging for many. Following a tariff-related delay, pre-orders began on April 24 with the console priced at $449.99, and demand was predictably intense. Additionally, Nintendo has informed U.S. customers who pre-ordered via the My Nintendo Store that high demand may affect guaranteed release-day delivery.
However, Bowser's recent statement indicates that those who have pre-ordered a Switch 2 should ultimately receive one. For more details, consult IGN's Nintendo Switch 2 pre-order guide.
Amid concerns about tariffs potentially forcing a price increase for the Switch 2 and its games, Bowser was asked about Nintendo's commitment to maintaining the $450 price point at launch and beyond.

In his response, Bowser was somewhat non-committal but noted that Nintendo had "made a commitment" by setting the Switch 2 price at $450 and the Mario Kart World bundle at $500.
"By announcing the pricing—$449 for the standalone unit and $499 for the bundle with Mario Kart World—we wanted to make our commitment clear," Bowser explained.
"It was important for us to establish that price, especially after new tariffs were announced, to reassure consumers. The market situation remains fluid, and it's hard to predict future developments. Still, our goal is to navigate any market conditions to ensure our products, including the Switch 2, remain as accessible as possible."
