Marvel star Chris Hemsworth has posted a tribute video for Thor, leading fans to speculate that the character may meet his end in the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday.
Titled "Thank You! The Legacy of Thor," the compilation features footage ranging from Hemsworth's early audition tapes to his performance in 2022's *Thor: Love and Thunder*. While it could simply be a nostalgic look back at the role he has portrayed since 2011—coinciding with the start of filming for *Avengers: Doomsday*—many interpret it as a final farewell to the God of Thunder.
Hemsworth accompanied the video with a heartfelt message in the description:
"Portraying Thor has been one of the greatest privileges of my life. For 15 years, I've wielded Mjolnir and Stormbreaker, but what made this journey truly extraordinary… was sharing it with all of you. Your passion, your cheers, and your love for this character have meant everything.
"Thank you for making my time in the Marvel Cinematic Universe unforgettable... Next up, Doomsday!"
This message, paired with the tribute video, has stirred unease among MCU fans, suggesting Chris Hemsworth might be preparing to retire his hammer for good.
"Please never walk away from this role. We all want you to stay," pleaded one commenter on the video. "Please never stop playing Thor," echoed another.
Similar sentiments are spreading across social media. "Yeah, Thor's definitely dying in the next movie," predicted one user on X/Twitter. "He's getting cooked," agreed another.

This speculation is fueled by recent context. Last year, Hemsworth acknowledged that he "didn't stick the landing" with the polarizing Thor: Love and Thunder, expressing a desire to give fans a more satisfying conclusion.
In an interview with Vanity Fair, Hemsworth reflected that he leaned too heavily into improvisation and zaniness for *Love and Thunder*, which he felt resulted in a self-parody. This was particularly striking following the acclaimed Thor: Ragnarok, which successfully blended comedy into the character's arc.
"I got caught up in the improv and the wackiness, and I became a parody of myself," he admitted. "I didn't stick the landing." According to the article, he feels he owes the audience another film to make amends. The question remains: will *Avengers: Doomsday* or *Secret Wars* serve as that redemption, or would a proper *Thor 5* be a more fitting send-off?

The prospect of *Thor 5* previously seemed unlikely. Hemsworth, who has appeared in eight MCU films, has stated he's ready to "close the book" on the character. Furthermore, director Taika Waititi, who helmed *Ragnarok* and *Love and Thunder*, is reportedly unavailable due to a packed schedule.
Marvel Studios recently pushed back the release dates for *Avengers: Doomsday* and *Avengers: Secret Wars* to December 2026 and December 2027, respectively. *The Fantastic Four: First Steps*, *Spider-Man: Brand New Day*, and the two Avengers films are currently the only MCU projects with confirmed release windows.
