The upcoming Narnia reinvention by Barbie filmmaker Greta Gerwig continues building its all-star cast with the addition of Carey Mulligan.
As reported by The Hollywood Reporter, the Oscar-nominated actress will join previously announced cast members including former 007 Daniel Craig, Sex Education's Emma Mackey, and Hollywood icon Meryl Streep.
Gerwig will write and direct this fresh interpretation of C.S. Lewis' beloved fantasy saga, The Chronicles of Narnia.
The film adapts the series' origin story, The Magician's Nephew - a prequel to the most famous Narnia adventure, The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe.
Mulligan, acclaimed for her award-winning performances in films like Promising Young Woman and Maestro, will portray Mabel Kirke - mother of the young protagonist Digory.
Craig takes on the role of Digory's mysterious uncle, the titular magician. Mackey will depict a younger incarnation of Jadis the White Witch, while Streep lends her voice to Narnia's divine lion ruler, Aslan.
This marks Narnia's return to cinema after previous adaptations of Lewis' first three books (2005-2010) starring Tilda Swinton as the White Witch and Liam Neeson voicing Aslan.
Gerwig's Narnia project follows her record-breaking success with 2023's Barbie, which earned eight Oscar nominations including Best Picture and won for Best Original Song.
The Chronicles of Narnia: The Magician's Nephew is slated for theatrical release in 2026.
