The age-old rivalry between Marvel and DC has taken an interesting turn as the two giants have decided to put their differences aside for a historic collaboration. This marks their first official crossover comic since the iconic JLA/Avengers series from 2003. And what better way to kickstart this new chapter than with the dynamic duo of Batman and Deadpool?
Entertainment Weekly broke the news, revealing that Marvel and DC are launching a pair of one-shot specials featuring the Caped Crusader and the Mercenary with a Mouth. Marvel will release Deadpool/Batman #1, written by Zeb Wells (The Amazing Spider-Man) and illustrated by Greg Capullo (Batman), while DC will publish Batman/Deadpool #1, penned by Grant Morrison (Batman) and drawn by Dan Mora (Superman/Batman: World's Finest). Each issue will also feature additional backup stories that pair even more characters from the Marvel and DC universes.
This collaboration harks back to the tradition of earlier crossovers, such as the 1976 classic Superman vs. The Amazing Spider-Man. According to DC's President, Chief Creative Officer, and Publisher Jim Lee, these events are rare and carefully timed to ensure they remain special. "There's a lot of coordination and approval required," he notes. "But when done right, it's a huge deal."
When asked why Batman and Deadpool were chosen for this landmark event, Marvel Entertainment President Dan Buckley admitted it was a simple yet compelling choice. "It just felt like a fun combo. Deadpool hanging out with Batman offers plenty of humor and action. We wanted something that would be entertaining, attract new readers, and remind old fans why they love comics."
