Fossil Pokémon Revamped: Fan Art Imagines New Forms

A Pokémon Sword and Shield enthusiast showcased their imaginative restoration of Galar's Fossil Pokémon, envisioning their original forms before the fragmented state seen in the game. This fan art, shared on social media, garnered significant praise for its creative designs and well-thought-out type assignments and abilities.

Fossil Pokémon have been a staple in the Pokémon franchise since its inception. Games like Pokémon Red and Blue featured complete fossils, yielding Kabuto and Omanyte. However, Sword and Shield deviated from this tradition, presenting players with fragmented fossil pieces representing parts of ancient creatures. Combining these fragments with the NPC Cara Liss resulted in the creation of Arctozolt, Arctovish, Dracozolt, and Dracovish.

Despite the absence of new Fossil Pokémon since Generation VIII, the creative spirit of the Pokémon community thrives. Reddit user IridescentMirage unveiled their artistic interpretation of what fully intact Galar Fossil Pokémon might look like, introducing Lyzolt, Razovish, Dracosaurus, and Arctomaw. These designs incorporated secondary typings (Electric, Water, Dragon, and Ice respectively) and abilities such as Strong Jaw and Adaptability to enhance their battle capabilities. Arctomaw, with a remarkable base stat total of 560, stood out among the quartet.

This fan art also introduced a unique "Primal" type, inspired by a Pokémon action RPG project and echoing the Paradox Pokémon of Pokémon Scarlet. This Primal type grants effectiveness against Grass, Fire, Flying, Ground, and Electric types, but leaves the Pokémon vulnerable to Ice, Ghost, and Water attacks. The artwork received enthusiastic feedback, with many praising the improved designs and expressing interest in the innovative Primal typing.

While the true forms of Galar's Fossil Pokémon remain a mystery, fan creations like IridescentMirage's artwork offer compelling glimpses into what could have been. The future of Fossil Pokémon in the tenth generation remains eagerly anticipated.
